About Add page numbers

Number the pages of a report, thesis or contract in a few clicks. Choose where the numbers go, how they look ("7", "Page 7" or "Page 7 of 20"), and which page to start on, so a cover page can stay unnumbered.

The preview shows exactly where the numbers will appear. Your PDF is processed in your browser and never uploaded.

How to use Add page numbers

  1. 1Add a PDF file.
  2. 2Choose the position, format and first page to number.
  3. 3Click Add page numbers and download the numbered PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The numbers are added on your device, in your browser. The file never leaves your computer or phone.

Can I skip the cover page?

Yes. Set "Start on page" to 2. You can also choose the first number, for example to continue numbering from another document.

Can I write the numbers in my own words?

Choose Custom and type your own text, using {n} for the page number and {total} for the last one, for example "Seite {n} von {total}". Latin letters, digits and common symbols are supported.

What about rotated or landscape pages?

Numbers are placed relative to how each page is displayed, so they appear in the same spot on portrait, landscape and rotated pages.

Does it change anything else?

No. The numbers are added on top of each page; text, images and links stay exactly as they were.
