About URL Encoder & Decoder

URLs can only contain a limited set of characters, so spaces, accents and symbols are written as percent escapes like %20 or %C3%A9. Encode text to put it safely into a link or query string, or decode an escaped URL to read it.

When you decode a full URL, its parts and query parameters are listed separately, which makes long tracking links easy to read. Nothing you paste leaves your browser.

How to use URL Encoder & Decoder

  1. 1Choose Encode or Decode.
  2. 2Paste your text or URL.
  3. 3Copy the result, or read the URL's parts below it.

Frequently asked questions

Is what I paste sent anywhere?

No. Encoding and decoding happen in your browser, and nothing you enter leaves your device.

What's the difference between “Value” and “Whole URL”?

Value encodes everything that has a meaning in URLs, including / ? & and =, so it's right for one query parameter or path segment (like encodeURIComponent). Whole URL keeps those characters so a complete link still works (like encodeURI).

Should spaces be %20 or +?

Both mean a space in query strings submitted by HTML forms; %20 works everywhere else too. Turn on “Spaces as +” only when a form-style query string is expected.

Why does decoding fail?

Usually a % that isn't followed by two hex digits, or escapes that don't form valid UTF-8 text. The error shows where it is. A literal % sign is written %25.
