Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF or password sent anywhere?
No. The PDF is decrypted on your device, in your browser. Neither the file nor the password is uploaded, saved or logged.
Can it unlock a PDF if I don't know the password?
No. PDFs that need a password to open are encrypted, and this tool doesn't guess passwords. If you've forgotten it, ask whoever sent you the file.
What about PDFs that only block printing or copying?
Those open without a password, and the restrictions can be removed right away. Make sure you have the right to print, copy or edit the document.
Does unlocking change the document?
No. Pages, text, images, links and forms stay exactly as they are. Only the encryption and restrictions are removed.
Which kinds of protection are supported?
The standard PDF password protection used by Adobe Acrobat and most other apps: AES-256, AES-128 and the older RC4 encryption. Certificate-based protection isn't supported.
